For your novel, complete a project that displays your mastery of the major theme or themes present. Be creative and put forth effort! Some suggestions for your project are listed below:
Create a movie soundtrack for your novel. Make up a C.D. of at least ten songs that relate to the major themes of your novel. Then make up a C.D. leaflet that explains your reason for including each song (one paragraph for each song). At least two songs must refer to the historical or cultural significance of your work.
Create a talk show for your novel. Write a script for a conversation that would occur between the characters if they were to be interviewed on the talk show (minimum 1-2 pages). Make sure your host asks your characters about the major themes in your novel, along with the historical or cultural significance of the work. You can even perform your talk show with other classmates (or willing participants) on video or in front of the class.
Create advertisements for the movie version of your novel. Pretend your novel is going to become a movie. Design a movie poster and write a movie trailer (minimum one-half page) for your novel that would make other people want to go see it. Or, use Windows Movie Maker, Microsoft Photostory, or any other program to create your own video trailer for the movie. Make sure your trailer conveys the major themes of the work to your viewing audience, along with the historical or cultural significance of your work.
Create a diorama for your novel. Make a diorama of a scene from your novel. If you choose to do this project, your diorama must reflect creativity and effort. Include a written explanation (minimum one page) of why you chose this particular scene and how it relates to the novel’s theme. You must also explain how this particular scene illustrates the historical or cultural significance of the work.
Create an alternate ending for your novel. Either add onto or rewrite the ending of your novel. Include with your alternate ending an explanation of why you rewrote the ending the way you did and how your new ending affects the major themes of your novel, along with its historical or cultural significance (Rewrites should be 1-2 pages; explanation should be 1-2 pages).
Write a letter to the author. Write a letter to the author that describes how you his/her book affected you. Make sure you explain the reasons why you liked or didn’t like the novel. Also, tell the whether or not you agree with the book’s message and your take on the historical or cultural significance of the work (minimum 1-2 pages).
Create a wikispace page for your novel. Use the wikispace website to create your own guide to the novel you selected. On this page, please include a section where you describe the theme to the novel and your reaction to it (at least two paragraphs), a section with a chapter-by-chapter summary of the novel, a section with an analysis of the major characters, a section that describes the novel's historical or cultural significance, and a discussion section with at least 5 discussion questions to which your visitors can respond.
Create your own idea for a project and complete it.Come up with a creative idea for your project that would allow you to analyze the major theme or themes of the work and its historical and cultural significance. Be sure to seek approval from Mrs. Petrosoff and Mrs. Dudley-Lemek before beginning this project!!
All written work for your projects should be in Times New Roman 12pt. font and double-spaced.
